Jerome Gambit Ascendant

Image result for large emoji

1. World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen has revealed that if his upcoming match with Sergey Karjakin goes to rapid tie-break games, he will consider playing the Jerome Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.Bxf7!?).

2. President Trump

Up until November 8, 2016, I would have expected #1 to be more likely.

Now it looks like the United States is going to get a whole lot of #2.

Today was Carlsen-Karjakin, game 5. After seeing 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5 was played, I begged for 4. Bxf7 to be played, of course! (Now that Donald Trump is President, anything can happen!) Magnus made a decision that almost proved to be disastrous by playing 4. 0-0 though, and, later in the game, Karjakin got the biggest advantage he's had in any of the World Championship games so far, and should have won it. After an inexact follow-up by Karjakin though, Magnus escaped with a draw but hopefully he will learn from this and venture 4. Bxf7 next time.

Now Carlsen is one point down in the world championship and desperate to win so hopefully we'll see him venture the Jerome gambit!
