Players who enjoy the cut-and-slash of the Jerome Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.Bxf7+) should be thrilled by the attacking possibility of a real gambit that has much more of a chance for success, and whose "refutations" are constantly being deconstructed, if not refuted – the Blackmar Diemer Gambit, 1.d4 d5 2.e4 dxe4 3.Nc3. Rick, thanks for the mention. I've always liked van Gogh's Starry Night, but was there some significance? That it was painted while he was in an asylum? Okay, BDG players are almost as crazy as Jerome Gambit players. But for the record, I still have both my ears.

Rest easy, though: it is "Jerome's Double Gambit" that's a pawn or two shy of a complete set; BDG players are the stars the Jerome Gambit Gemeinde sometimes stares out at.
Of course, whenever I try for the Jerome with 1.e4 and I meet the contrarian 1...d5, I quickly flip (with a smile) to 2.d4 and the Blackmar Diemer Gambit!
