Vacation

I suspect that the graphic on the previous post might cause some Readers to speculate that this blog has passed on, but the truth is that I am vacationing far away from my computer and databases. I have plenty of new Jeromes Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.Bxf7+) material, including a pile of games from Dan Middlemiss, an intriguing article by Yury V. Bukayev, and my most recent loss in the Jerome (hey, it happens). See you in about a week.

Jerome Gambit: R.I.P.

A fast-running YouTube.com video "JEROME GAMBIT KILLER LATEST WEAPON" from Chess Minds shows a line of play in which Black checkmates White in the Jerome Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.Bxf7+) in 14 moves.

Although there is no mention, the line is from Bruce Pandolfini's Chess Openings: Traps and Zaps (1989).

You can find more information on a post to this blog from 13 years ago.

Somehow, despite every "refutation", the Jerome Gambit continues to feature in exciting chess games.

Jerome Gambit: Two Grandmasters Discussing the Jerome Gambit

I just finished watching a Chess Brah video (on YouTube.com) with Grandmasters Aman Hambleton and Yasser Seirawan, on "These are MY subs, I know how they play".

Two Grandmasters discussing the Jerome Gambit... One plays a game, the other appears to be amused at the outcome.

Grandmaster Hambleton is familiar with the Jerome Gambit, and he plays a 3 0 blitz game, giving "Jerome Gambit odds" to his opponent while keeping up the conversation with Grandmaster Seirawan.

"Not to be outdone in generosity," as Joseph Blackburne once commented on his own play, when he faced the Jerome, Grandmaster Hambleton also sacrifices his Queen on move 10.

The game ends in checkmate on move 31, and Grandmaster Hambleton still has slightly over a second on his clock.

As F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway never said to each other,

"Let me tell you about the Grandmasters. They are different from you and me."

"Yes, they play better chess."

Amazing game.

Check it out.

"Win and lose withe the Bishop sacrifice Gambit" is how the "Bishop Sacrifice Gambit?!" is introduced in the "Adventures of a Chess Noob" blog at Chess.com.

An essential component of the Jerome Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.Bxf7+) - along with the Queen sally to h5 - is Bxf7+.

The video and games on the "Bishop Sacrifice Gambit" gives a good look at the dangers that can come to the defense, in the Jerome Gambit and other openings.

Fun and educational.

Jerome Gambit: Pleasant Relaxation

The latest Jerome Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.Bxf7+) video that I have discovered on YouTube.com is "how to beat opponent in chess । jerome gambit chess । bishop's opening boi variation । chess tricks" which shows an interesting game and a pleasant checkmate.

It is a presentation of The Master Tricks, which has quite a collection of videos, including an earlier one mentioned on this blog a year ago in "Jerome Gambit: Relaxing".
